Learning Log 5

An unseen poem or prose passage is simply one you may not have read before. There is nothing special about an unseen  poem/prose passage:and should be approached in the same way any piece of prose or poem. The poem should be read at least two times. The first time, once through without stopping.Picking out the words that are  interesting or difficult. When answering questions, use the peel method. First write the point which is usually a sentence.Next, one should elaborate on the point or why the student thinks it is correct. He should support his elaboration with an evidence or quotation.Lastly one should write how this is connected with the question. One should use inverted commas when quoting. One should pick words or/and phrases that draw attention to oneself.A quotation should be kept short and sweet. In essay writing,a literature student should display a close engagement with the text in the essay. One should not spend more than ten minutes on reading the text and analyzing the text before jotting down important points. After having understood the meaning of the text they should then interpret the text.Highlight any interesting words in the text and then ask yourself why that particular word is chosen instead of another. It could be used to convey a certain word or feeling.Students should convey a clear understanding of the text and also explain the implied meaning of it.The student should be able to offer a insight into the text. One should follow the PEEP format which stands for point, evidence, elaboration, and personal response.

Learning Log 4

Last week,we had our Macbeth performance .We had put in a lot of hard work to bring this performance. On our actual performance day we actually found out that there were other groups which had done better than us.For instance Rebecca's group had a power point presentation with fabulous sound effects. Also our costume was rather simple. In the end,our hard work had paid off and our performance was a success.I had a really good time working with my group.

Learning Log 3

During our previous literature lessons ,we had a group activity on predictions.Hui Min who was in the our group told us  predictions that a woman has made about the world who has died previously. She had  predicted that there would be world war 3 in 2010 (the korean wars),the world won't end in 2012 but in 2100.Also there will be a time when humans will interact with aliens.I found the predictions weird but I would not believe it as I think it is ridiculous.

Learning Log 2

During our previous literature lessons, we learnt a lot about superstitions. Each individual was asked to jot down 5 superstitions that they believe in.Since I could only think of only two examples, I had to surf the internet to complete the assignment.I found some rather interesting ones which I had never heard before. One example is , to spit on a new bat before using it so that you are lucky.I was really surprised upon hearing this superstition. I do not actually believe in superstitions as they do not normally occur.Superstitions derive from the olden times where a incident occurs coincidentally due to a unknown reason and from then on people start to believe that by doing the same task, either good luck or bad luck bestows on you.One superstition which I think is not good is that when black cat walks in your path , bad luck will bestowed on you.As a result , people start to hate black cats and be cruel with them. Some go to the extent to even kill it.It is not the cat's fault that the it's  skin colour is black. It is god's will that the cat's skin colour is black it is not the cat's will.Hence people should not be cruel to black cats. Most of the superstions are not true.Few black cats have crossed my path and nothing happened to me that day.Everything was fine and nothing unlucky occured to me.Hence to sum this up,people should not be gullible to believe in everything they are told .Moving on , we drew or printed out a picture of the three witches present in Macbeth.Later some of my classmates acted as the three witches.I enjoyed their mimicking of three witches particularly Liang Wei's high pitch imitation voice of the witch. The "witches" airs and graces was a laughing stock of everyone.I myself guffawed loudly.I found the lesson on macbeth very enjoyable.

Learning Log 1

During our previous literature lesson we learnt an unknown and new type of poem called the cinquin.A cinquin is a five line poem. The specialty of this poem is that each line of it follows a rule. The rules are ....
Line 1 (title which consists of a word)
Line 2 (description of the poem which has two words)
Line 3 (describing action which has three words)
Line 4 (feeling which has four words)
Line 5(Use a word to describe the title)
After Mrs Woo taught all about cinquins an some examples, we were divided into groups of five to create our own  cinquain .  We chose the topic ICE CREAM.Although a cinquain seems really easy to write, in reality it is quite difficult to create one as one needs a wide range of vocabulary to write one.Only the most talented one can write a perfect one.We felt that it was very fun writing a cinquin.I would want to learn how to write different types of  poems.
